Bharti Airtel launched an in-house OTT platform aimed at lowering the barrier to entry for enterprises looking to establish video streaming services, with three beta clients having signed up.

Airtel IQ Video, according to the operator, is an end-to-end managed solution that allows businesses to develop streaming products for large and small screens with little infrastructure and technology investment.

According to Adarsh Nair, Airtel’s chief product officer, IQ Video allows businesses to focus on content while the platform handles end-to-end technology to provide a high-quality watching experience.

“We anticipate to see more content start-ups and established content firms come online and engage with customers directly through digital channels.”

The technology is now being used by India-based TV network Raj TV, subscription-based on-demand video portal Eros Now, and Nepal-based CG Telecom during the beta phase.

M Raajhendhran, MD of Raj Television Network, said that the company utilised IQ Video to digitise old analogue material, host it on Airtel’s cloud infrastructure, and distribute it to people in India and throughout the world via its own OTT app. In the next 12 months, Airtel aims to add more than 50 companies to the platform.

The platform, according to Airtel, also eliminates the need for numerous communication platforms for various channels. Businesses may use a single platform to incorporate communication services like phone, SMS, IVR, and video in their apps and digital assets across desktop and mobile with only a few lines of code.

Airtel claims that its IQ Video offering, which leverages Airtel’s cloud and video capabilities, enables businesses to create world-class video streaming products for large and small screens with minimum infrastructure and technology investment.
