Legendary actress Surekha Sikri passes away today (July 16) in Mumbai, due to cardiac arrest at the age of 75. The news was confirmed by her manager that the actress last breathed earlier this morning at 8:30 AM. The veteran actress was already suffering from health issues, and reportedly she was also admitted in the hospital for health issues like trial fibrillation, ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular accident.
Surekha was admitted in the hospital last year in September 2020, after she suffered from a brain stroke. Earlier in 2018 the actress also suffered a paralytic stroke. Recently, a nurse was also appointed to take care of the actress. Speaking to indianexpress.com, her manager said, “Three-time national award winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram.”
Vetran actress Surekha has worked in film and television industry. She made her debut with political drama ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’ in 1978. Surekha won Best Supporting Actress award three times for her splendid acting and magnificient performance in Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995) and Badhaai Ho (2018). She gained immense of popularity and love from her outstanding acting in Hindi soap opera Balika Vadhu. She was born in UP, and learnt acting skills from National School of Drama in 1971.
In 2019, her role of dadi in Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Badhaai Ho, gained her immense of popularity. She grabbed all the attention in 66th National Films Awards Ceremony, when she came to receive the award in a wheelchair. Her last performance was marked in Zoya Akhtar’s short film ‘Ghost Stories’ that premiered on Netflix. About her personal life, the actress is married to Hement Rege and have a son Rahul Sikri.
