Pawan Shankar, a Prayagraj native who created a splash with the TV programme Siddhant (2004), believes his big break has finally arrived after 17 years. The actor, who plays a Pakistani intelligence officer in Bhuj: The Pride of India, is overjoyed to have gotten his due and is eager for more.

“In 2009, I filmed for Anubhav Sinha’s film Rajdhani, which sadly got shelved,” the Kasam Se actor reveals during his visit to Lucknow. After all these years, my big break in cinema finally came, but destiny always gives you what you deserve! The video was shown all around the world and received favourable feedback from the industry’s elite.”

“It’s a pretty harsh industry out there!” he adds, summarising his experience. I couldn’t obtain a film break despite starring in successful TV programmes like Aisa Desh Hai Mera, Vicky Ki Taxi, and Kya Hua Tera Vada. However, I am thankful to director Abhinav Kashayap and producer Anurradha Prasad for giving me Siddhant, which won an International Emmy Award, and to Bhuj… director Abhishek Dudhaiya for believing in me.”

As a negative lead, he appeared in Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega (2019). “I shot for this programme after a six-year hiatus to focus on personal projects. For the time being, I’m not interested in doing television. Good parts for OTT programmes are pouring in, but now that this film has come out, people are seeing me in a different way, and the calibre of roles being given is also quite different.”
