The popular BTS group of seven members have won hearts of people not just in South Korea but all across the world through their music. BTS members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook spoke at the United Nations General Assembly on Monday. After their speech and performance at the 76th United Nations General Assembly, the group travelled to New York’s Metropolitan Museum (The Met) with first lady Kim Jung- Sook to present Korean contemporary art, Chung Heecho’s ‘Rhythm of the Five Colour Luster,’ as a gift from their country.

The Rhythm of the Five Colour Luster consists of five lacquer vessels coloured in accordance with the five elements of East Asian cosmology. The piece will now be included in the museum’s Korean art exhibition. RM, the group’s leader, also spoke at the event about how Korean art, culture, films, dramas, and music are recognised around the world.

According to the details by The Art Newspaper, RM in his speech said, “The eyes of the world are on Korean culture, Korean dramas, Korean film, and Korean music but there are still many Korean artist who are yet to be discovered by the world.”

RM went on to say that he and other BTS members enjoy art as well, and that it makes them happy to be able to bring the work of talented Korean artists to an international platform. He said, “It is very meaningful to see a Korean exhibit in New York, a city that people from all over the world want to come to and a mecca of art. I’m more than happy to be an art lover.”

The group also met with Melissa Fleming, UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, where RM discussed their ‘Keep the Promise’ campaign, which aims to raise awareness about racism and hate speech through social media.
