While Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa, and Hollywood blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home were all enormous box-office hits this year, Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior was named the most successful film of the previous two years. The Om Raut directed film, which also stars Saif Ali Khan and Kajol in crucial parts, was released in January 2020 and made about 280 crores in the home market, with a global revenue of Rs 3.67 billion ($49 million).
Tanhaji, produced by Ajay Devgn, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar, was a box office success upon its debut, becoming the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2020.
Ajay Devgn informed IANS about his thoughts on the achievement “Tanhaji was notable for being loyal to the patriotic spirit, having excellent dialogue, and featuring outstanding performances from Kajol and Saif Ali Khan. And I put out my best efforts.”
“I’m very delighted this unsung fighter received his due at the Indian box office and was praised abroad as well,” he said.
The historical picture was set in the 17th century and told the narrative of warrior Tanhaji and his quest to recover the Kondhana castle against Udaybhan Singh Rathore (played by Saif Ali Khan). The film also featured Neha Sharma, Sharad Kelkar, and Luke Kenny.
Returning to this year’s films, Sooryavanshi by Rohit Shetty has surpassed the Rs 195 crore milestone, while Pushpa and Spider-Man: No Way Home have already surpassed the Rs 200 crore level. Allu Arjun’s Pushpa, which stars Rashmika Mandanna as the main heroine, has grossed Rs 219.68 crore so far, with over Rs 60 crore coming from the Hindi version.
Despite coronavirus limitations and competition from Pushpa and Ranveer Singh-starrer 83, the New Year weekend helped Spider-Man: No Way Home reach the 200-crore mark.
