Shahid Kapoor, who is scheduled to make his digital debut with a series created by the makers of ‘The Family Man,’ Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, says he wants to push himself as an actor with his entrance into streaming.
Nidimoru and DK conceived and wrote the programme, which has been dubbed a quirky criminal drama series, for Prime Video. Sita R Menon, Suman Kumar, and Hussain Dalal collaborated on the script.
According to the 41-year-old actor, an artist must try to provide a unique story on OTT platforms because consumers are already exposed to a wide range of information.
“You are always apprehensive when you try anything new. People may like you in that setting but dislike you in another. As a result, you should constantly remain modest and grounded.
“People have a lot of options today; they watch different forms of entertainment, and you must always strive to provide something new,” he continued.
The Delhi-born actor, well known for his roles in ‘Jab We Met,’ ‘Udta Punjab,’ ‘Haider,’ and ‘Padmavaat,’ said he greatly loved working on the online program.
“It’s a long form format, and I was intrigued to see how I might develop a character over the course of eight or nine episodes in the first season. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next. But that’s not the same as playing a role for two hours and doing it all in one go. All of these things are thrilling. I genuinely had a great time.”
The actor had been hoping to work with Nidimoru and DK, who have also helmed films such as ‘Go Goa Gone,’ ‘Shor in The City,’ and ’99.’
“The Amazon program with Raj and DK is fascinating and entertaining. They (directors) worked with Manoj Bajpayee on their last movie, and I wanted to cooperate with them, but I was concerned that their expectations would be quite high (from me) considering that they had previously worked with him (Bajpayee) “He stated.
“It’s a distinct program with an entirely different universe, and that’s what makes it so interesting. They are extremely skilled at what they do. It’s all new to me as well.”
Without going into specifics, the ‘Kabir Singh’ actor stated that he will be playing someone from Mumbai’s streets.
“I absolutely comprehend (the character). That’s what I was when I was 16-17, travelling in trains and doing this and that. The Mumbai Street child, with a lot of ambition and goals and a middle-to-lower-middle-class upbringing. There is a criminal element that occurs “Kapoor said.
In addition to Vijay Sethupathi, Raashi Khanna, and Regina Cassandra, the series stars National Award winner Vijay Sethupathi.
When asked about working with Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi, Kapoor stated, “The program doesn’t have many sequences. We only meet once in the entire show, but it’s a wonderful sequence.”
