With Karan Malhotra’s Shamshera, Ranbir Kapoor is making a significant comeback on the big screen. The star’s most recent appearance was in Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju in 2018. The OTT channels have grown rapidly during the four years that Ranbir went without a release, and many well-known actors have opted to go digital.

Ranbir recently spoke openly with the media on how Bollywood has adjusted to the rise of OTT channels. While he stated that the box office takes serves as the primary yardstick for determining a movie’s success or failure, he also acknowledged that some productions are better suited for a digital distribution.

The celebrity provided two instances from two of his own flicks to further explain his argument. According to Ranbir, movies like Barfi! or Tamasha would not perform well in theatres nowadays because most people would rather see such things at home.

However, it won’t play in a theatre if I have to release a Barfi! or a Tamasha today. Although I’m not sure whether it would, I believe that most people would prefer to see that in the privacy of their own homes. A few years ago, we declared that OTT would eventually kill off the movie industry. The 39-year-old actor was reported by DNA as stating, “It’s not that.

Added he, “The fact that the audience has a new platform now, in my opinion, is something you view positively. They can decide. The audience is our master, and we are its slaves. They may now select how they wish to watch the movie. You only have to provide the information to them.”

In order to make his case, Ranbir said that there are many variables that affect whether a movie should debut on an OTT platform or in theatres.

“You must decide the picture you are making, what genre it will be, and how much money you will need to make it. You can release it on those venues, such as theatre, television, and OTT, which has been quite useful, “added he.

Ranbir will be featured in a double role in Shamshera for the first time ever. The action comedy, which also stars Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, will be released on July 22.
