Once you start watching this show and like it as much as I did, the break will be only after 5 episodes as the remaining episodes will be aired after a week.

All movie buffs are going to love this one for sure. It recreates the olden days of Bombay film industry of the 40’s. Partition, riots, communalism, friendship, ambition, aristocracy, struggles and so much more are engulfed in this series.

Srikant Roy, owner of Roy Talkies is played by the Bengali superstar, Prosenjit and he looks apt for this role. Sumitra Kumari essayed by Aditi Roy Hydari, is his conniving wife. Vikramaditya Motwane, schooled in Bhansali world of filmmaking creates a nostalgic world of cinema that looks authentic to the core. Wonderful direction by him!

The music, given by Amit Trivedi is at its best. Its melodious and goes well with the theme. You can savor the music as the story unfolds.

Cinema and radio are the only two mediums of information at that time and they influence public opinion. A young refugee crosses paths with a courtesan Niloufer Qureshi and he harnesses the dream of becoming an actor and a filmmaker but is caught in a life altering accident. The characters and their love and hate for one another makes this series very relatable. The plot is centered around a studio owner and his quest of finding a new face for his film.

Atul Sabharwal’s screenplay is engaging and the story is fascinating as it is inspired by real events. The series reminds me of Bombay Velvet- the jazz clubs, the shiny vintage cars and the incriminating photographs everyone passes around.

watch the story of an Independent India and the role of showbiz in shaping our nation.
