Akshay Kumar does a fantastic job at representing unsung heroes, he stands apart in these heroic roles and his acting is commendable.
In his latest venture, Mission Raniganj, The Great Bharat rescue, the actor plays the role of Jaswant Singh Gill, the Additional Chief mining engineer at Coal India, who left no stone unturned to save the life of 70 miners trapped in the flooded bowels of Mahabir colliery in West Bengal.
Director Tinu Suresh Desai manages to keep the audience engaged. However, a major chunk of focus is on Akshay totally and sometimes that gets a tad bit too much. With a runtime of 2 hrs. 14 mins and a great cast of Parineeti Chopra, Shishir Sharma, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Kumud Mishra and others, this is a true account of the disasters faced by miners in a coal mine.
While blasting the walls, a water gate gets smashed allowing the harsh inflow of water to risk the lives of miners. Akshay, has made a good effort but there are several loose ends. After the movie Ram Setu busted at the box office, this is yet another example of a hurried job.
The movie, focusses entirely on Akshay’s heroism where in he created an iron capsule and dropped it inside by digging a new borehole to rescue the miners, yet the film forgets the 6 miners who lost their lives in the accident.
The movie is running in the theatres but with the World Cup furor, will it hold on for long?
