The Karnataka Police announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a horrific attack on a female lawyer in the area.
On social media, a video recording of the incident went viral, showing the perpetrator kicking, slapping, and punching the lawyer in broad daylight.
Biocon CEO Kiran Majumdar-Shaw also took to social media to comment on the issue, stating that the individual should be arrested for his heinous actions. She shared the video with the caption, “He is an animal, not a civilized human.”
This episode has been described as embarrassing for Karnataka on social media. Mahantesh Cholachagudda, 40, has been apprehended by the police.
The culprit was apprehended after the video went viral. Mahantesh, a businessman and photographer at Bagalkot University, allegedly beat the woman over a property dispute, according to police. Sangeetha Sikkeri, the victim, was taken to the hospital following the incident.
Sangeetha, an advocate, revealed that her uncle had sold the house they were living in without alerting her or her family. The case was in court, and the property’s buyer was pushing them to quit the premises. She suspected the person’s participation in the attack since he was powerful.
Meanwhile, lawyers in Bagalkot have opted not to represent the accused and have planned a dharna. The inquiry is continuing.
