After enduring scorching summer days, the arrival of the monsoon brings happiness and a heightened desire for our favourite delicious treats. To satisfy these rainy-day cravings, &TV artists spill the beans on their favourite monsoon snacks that are delicious, healthy, and utterly irresistible. These include artists such as Mohit Dagga (Ashok, Doosri Maa), Yogesh Tripathi (Daroga Happu Singh, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan), and Vidisha Srivastava (Anita Bhabi, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai). Mohit Dagga, aka Ashok from Doosri Maa, shares, “Embracing the enchantment of Madhya Pradesh, the monsoon season never fails to ignite a spark of excitement within me. The entire state undergoes a breathtaking transformation as raindrops dance upon the lush flora. During these magical moments, I find solace in the heavenly combination of homemade mangodi—crafted from the finest moong dal—and a steaming cup of garam chai. My mother possesses a divine talent for preparing the most delectable mangodi in the entire universe. Honestly, I cannot resist the temptation and request her to whip up a batch even when the monsoon is far from sight (laughs). A piping hot plate of poha, accompanied by the side of jalebi and a delightful kachori, holds a special place in my heart. I am currently stationed in Jaipur for “Doosri Maa,” I long for my mother’s mouthwatering preparations, as her culinary skills are unmatched. However, Jaipur presents its delightful array of dishes that satisfy my cravings. From the tempting pyaaz kachori and spicy mirchi wada to the comforting daal baati, I thoroughly enjoy this season’s diverse flavours.”
Yogesh Tripathi, aka Daroga Happu Singh from Happu ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “Uttar Pradesh is renowned for its tantalizing cuisine, and during the monsoon season, it becomes a paradise for food enthusiasts like me (laughs). One delicacy that captures my heart is Singhara, also known as Samosas, accompanied by a steaming cup of kulhad wali chai. These mouthwatering treats consist of a delectable filling of potatoes, peanuts, and spices, snugly wrapped in all-purpose flour (Maida) and served with tangy tamarind chutney. I’m thrilled that this delight is readily available in Mumbai, and I never miss an opportunity to relish it whenever the rain pours down. Moreover, roasted corn, lovingly called “butta,” holds a special place in my heart during this season, and you can often catch me indulging in it while on the go.” Vidisha Srivastava, aka Anita Bhabi from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, shares, “The monsoon season holds a special place in my heart as it invites a delightful feast of my favourite dishes. In Mumbai, the air fills with tantalizing aromas that captivate the senses. Every street corner is adorned with stalls serving crispy vadas and bhajiyas—potatoes and onions coated in a flavorful gram flour batter. The experience becomes even more heavenly when paired with soft pav bread. My taste buds go into overdrive whenever I pass these stalls—I cannot resist indulging. Also, my favourite is hot noodles and a steaming cup of assorted coffee. My hometown of Varanasi has numerous spots to treat yourself to some mouthwatering delicacies. During my time there, I never missed an opportunity to devour tamatar chaat and palak chaat at Kashi Bhandar, followed by the irresistible combination of Kachori Sabzi and Jalebi at Ram Bhandar.”
