This Imtiaz Ali directorial is a really fine movie. After long, I have seen a movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. Diljit Dosanjh has stolen the show. Take a bow! What acting! He is a legend.
A movie about a simple, village boy whose passion is singing. He rose to freedom because of his passion but some folks did not like his lyrics- they found them cheap and vulgar. He was called the ‘Elvis of Punjab’. His music was a reflection of life in the village, what he had seen- adultery, abuse, addiction and misogyny.
In a short span of time, the established forces and the anti-established elements, started threatening him. He created devotional music too, but the masses wanted to hear his old, cheesy songs. There is a clash of interest between the classes and the masses.
Diljit has shown an earnest portrayal of the character. You became him, sang like him, what a great effort! Anuraag Arora commands every scene he is in with a commanding presence and his role as DSP is well nuanced.
Imtiaz Ali has once again proven his prowess as a storyteller and given us a film that entertains. Watch this biopic which will take you back to the 80’s, and shows the life story of a much loved singer.
