While India celebrated its 75th Independence Day on August 15, Indians in Afghanistan were experiencing a difficult time, as the Afghan government had crumbled on Sunday, and the Taliban had taken the power. During the upheaval in Afghanistan, the Indian rescue operation team is constantly striving to evacuate Indian nationals from Kabul. The Indian ambassadors, embassy staffs and nations were carried out safely by Indian authorities.
Almost two decades after being driven out of power by a US-led invasion, the Taliban have invaded Kabul. Several videos of citizens falling from the planes as they are attempting to leave the country anyhow, has startled the entire world. According to ANI, an Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster evacuated 120 Indians from Afghanistan and arrived at Jamnagar airport on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also remained in close contact with officials during the evacuation, according to news agency sources.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the Ministry of External Affairs also released a statement amid the horrifying situation of Afghanistan. The Ministry stated, “We have been issuing periodic travel and security advisories for all Indian nationals in Afghanistan, given the deteriorating security situation there. Those already in Afghanistan were urged to return immediately while others were advised not to travel there. Nevertheless, we understand that a number of Indians are stranded in that country, some of whom are employed by third-country organizations. Our immediate priority is to obtain accurate information about all Indian nationals currently in Afghanistan.”
