Diwali celebrations multiply as the Conservative Party Leader Rishi Sunak created a memorable moment in history by becoming the first Indian origin Prime Minister of UK. He has been elected unopposed and will replace Liz Truss, who served as Britain’s shortest serving PM. He is the 57th prime minister of UK and the first person of colour to lead the country.

Rishi Sunak is the UK born son of a general practitioner Yashvir and his mother; Usha is a pharmacist. An Oxford and Stanford University alumnae, he is married to Akshata Murty, the daughter of NR Narayan Murty, the founder of Infosys.

Sunak’s destiny changed when Truss resigned after her high-profile sacking and resignation in her cabinet. The mini budget by her has been severely criticized and left the UK pound tumbling. After she was forced to step own just 45 days into office, Truss said that she recognizes that she “cannot deliver the mandate” on which she was elected.

Amitabh Bachchan took to his social media and posted, “Jai Bharat…now the UK finally has a new viceroy as its Prime Minister from the Mother Country.”

PM Modi also congratulated Rishi Sunak on Monday and said he was looking forward to working closely together on global issues.

The 42-year-old Sunak, who is known as “the son-in-law of Bengaluru”, has created history. This shows that anybody has an opportunity in a democratic set-up and here’s hoping this will further strengthen India and UK’ s relationship and create new opportunities.
