An end of an Era: Dilip Kumar passes away at 98, burial to take place Juhu Qabrastan at Santacruz, Mumbai

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar passed away on Wednesday morning. He was 98. The actor was popularly known as the tragedy king of Bollywood. He is survived by his wife, veteran actress Saira Banu. His funeral will take place at 5 pm in Juhu Qabrastan at Santacruz, Mumbai.

Dr. Jalil Parkar stated, that Dilip Kumar passed away at 7:30 am today. “He passed away due to prolonged illness. He was 98,” added Parkar.

Adding further doctor said, “He had water in the pleural cavity, and he suffered a kidney failure. He required blood transfusion multiple times. We carried the last transfusion but it did not help,” a hospital doctor said. He suffered a drop in blood pressure and hemoglobin towards the end. “Cancer spread made it difficult to treat him.”

The official Twitter account of the actor also confirmed the news of his death, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him, we return.” Another update said the last rites of the late actor. “Burial today at 5:00 PM. Juhu Qabrastan at Santacruz Mumbai.”

Dilip Kumar, born Muhammed Yusuf Khan was a trendsetter in terms of acting style, was regarded as one of the greatest actors that India has witnessed in his career which spanned over five iconic decades.

He debuted in acting with Jwar Bhata in 1944, but the film and his work did not garner attention. It was in 1947 with Jugnu, that he clinched his first box office hit.

Some of his best-known films are Mughal-e-Azam, Devdas, Gunga Jamuna, Naya Daur, Ram Aur Shyam, Vidhaata, Shakti, Madhumati, Mashaal, and Kranti, to name just a few.

 Dilip Kumar was the first actor to win the Filmfare Award in 1954, for Best Actor, and won it a total of 8 times. He is listed in the Guinness World Records for winning the maximum number of awards by an Indian actor. He was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Padma Vibhushan in 1994 and 2015 respectively.
