Actor Arjun Kapoor‘s weight-loss journey is well-known and inspires a lot of his fans. He used to be 140 kg and before making his acting debut with Ishaqzaade in 2012, he shed 50 kilos. The actor talked about gaining weight and his struggles to get in shape.
Arjun has always been candid about his weight issues and cherishes every chapter of his life. Talking about his body transformation, the actor said it’s wrong to equate fitness with being thin. “Fitness is equated to being thin. During Ishaqzaade, I was 95 kg, which is a lot of weight to carry. But, it was fine as I had abs. India has issues with color, size, and structure. I am a big structured guy. I embrace it positively.”
Speaking about body shaming, the actor said, “You can’t put other people down. You might be slightly overweight, doesn’t mean you go into a dark hole.” He thinks social media is to blame somewhere. “It started with, ‘if you have it, flaunt it.’ Now it’s excess. It’s not real. I am a part of the problem as well as the solution. Life catches up with you. When lockdown happened, I realized I should do what works for me, not follow the fad. The right people will always inspire you.”
Arjun Kapoor on gaining weight
Arjun has admitted that he was always fine with his size and never felt conscious about it. The actor said that he gained all that weight in one summer when his father Boney Kapoor and his late mother Mona Shourie separated. He said, “I remember being okay with my size. I was fine, not conscious. But it happened in one summer. My parents separated and I took solace in food. That changed my life. It was my way of hiding and eating, trying to find happiness between sadness.”
Meanwhile, work-wise, Arjun Kapoor will be seen next in horror-comedy, Bhoot Police, also starring Saif Ali Khan, Yami Gautam, and Jacqueline Fernandez. The film is all set to premiere on Disney+Hotstar on September 17.
