Milkha Singh passed away on Friday night, June 18 due to covid-19 complications.He was admitted to a hospital in Chandigarh, to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)  and he lost a month-long battle to the deadly virus. He was 91. Milkha Singh was popularly known as ‘Flying Sikh’.

Milkha Singh’s 85-year-old wife Nirmal Kaur, a former national volleyball captain, had succumbed due to covid-19 related complications on Sunday in Mohali.

Milkha Singh is survived by his son, Jeev Milkha Singh, and three daughters.

As the unfortunate news came, several celebs from the entertainment industry took to social media to pay their tribute to Milkha Singh.

Shah Rukh Khan tweeted, “Flying Sikh Milkha Singh may not be among us, but his presence will always be with us. He was an inspiration to me as well as millions of people. May your soul rest in peace Milkha Singh sir.”

Priyanka Chopra took to Twitter and remembered him, she wrote, “Warm and welcoming, you made our first meeting so so special. I have been inspired by your excellence, touched by your humility, influenced by your contribution to our country. Om Shanti #Milkha Ji. Sending love and prayers to the family. #MilkhaSingh.”

“I had the privilege of meeting you. This meeting will always be special for me. You will have a special place in the hearts of all of us. Whenever your inspiration is needed, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ will echo in our ears,” wrote Raveena Tandon.

Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the passing away of sports legend #MilkhaSingh. A monumental loss for our nation. His incredible legacy will continue to inspire athletes all over the world. Rest in peace sir.”

Malayalam actor Mohanlal shared a photo of Milkha Singh and called him a great human being. He wrote, “A great athlete and a great human. Milkha Singhji, you were an inspiration to many! Rest in Peace #MilkhaSingh.”

Nivin Pauly, Rakul Preet, Taapsee Pannu, Nandamuri Balakrishna, and several other celebrities paid their last respects to Milkha Singh.
