‘Court’ actor Vira Sathidar passed away due to Covid-19

National Award winning actor Vira Sathidar passed away today morning (April 13) at AIIMS Hospital in Nagpur. The actor was diagnosed with covid-19 and was undergoing the treatment. He was on the life supporting system for the past two days at the hospital.

He rose to fame for his performance in the multilingual legal drama film, Court in 2014.In the film, he played the role of a teacher and a protest post named Narayan Kamble.The film was directed by Chaitanya Tamhane and produced by Vivek Gomber.  Later, he won a National award for his performance in the film.

Chaitanya Tamhane, film director confirmed the news of his death to PTI and mentioned, “It’s true. He passed away at around 3 AM in the hospital. He had Covid-19 and was on ventilator. It’s an extremely unfortunate news. It is yet to sink in.”

He further added that the news of his demise has come as a ‘huge shock’ to him. ‘He was not only an actor, activist, and a poet but also one of the nicest human beings I have met. I still can’t process it. He was a fantastic person and I can now only think of the time we spent making the film Court.’

Vira Sathidar was not only actor, but also a poet, writer, singer, lyricist and activist. He was an editor of Marathi Magazine ‘Vidrohi’. His film ‘Court’, was India’s official entry to Oscars in 2016.
