Sanjana Sanghi and Sushant Singh Rajput’s film, Dil Bechara was released on July 24, 2020, on Disney+ Hotstar. The coming-of-age romance film marked the last film of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The film garnered immense love from everyone that made them laugh and cry. It has been a year today since Mukesh Chhabra’s directorial debut film was released on the OTT platform.

As it completes a year, actress Sanjana Sanghi who also made her acting debut with this film recalls the time when she met late actor Sushant Singh Rajput for the first time. In a recent interview with a leading daily, the actress revealed that within five minutes of their meeting, they both realized that they are nerds. The duo bonded over many things but the one common point of interest between them was Delhi. While Sajana hailed from the capital, SSR studied there.

Sanjana Sanghi said, “We met for the first time at Mukesh (Chhabra, director) sir’s office, where we did our reading. Within five minutes of the meeting, we realized that we both are nerds, are obsessed with everything academic, and lived for the love of food! The other common point of interest was Delhi. While I hailed from Delhi, he had studied there. The performances you see in the film are all because of teamwork as it’s a completely performance-oriented movie. It didn’t boast of any fancy song sequences or stunts, but relied on human emotions and relationships.”

Talking about what she learned from SSR, the actress said, “The one thing Sushant taught me was to save my energy. He made me realize how important it was to conserve energy by not putting in all of it when not required, for instance, the wide-angle shots. He used to call it ‘rationing’ of the energy.”

When asked if Dil Bechara got the attention for the right reasons that the film deserved, she said, “The day the film was released, it created records with millions of people watching the movie on the first day. That’s an unreal number. With the kind of love and respect the film got, how can I have any regrets? It was quite an ode.”

For the unversed, Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14, 2020.
