Veteran bollywood actress Shashikala Om Prakash Saigal passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday (April 4) at her residence in Colaba, Mumbai. The reason of her demise is yet unknown. 

The renowned actress, who was better known by her first name Shashikala, began working at an early age to support her parents. She has been featured in over 100 films. The late actress was known for her supporting roles in the film industry. She worked in films like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum, Teen Batti Char Raasta, Phool Aur Patthar, Chacha Chowdhury, Apne Huye Paraye to name a few.

Apart from films, she also worked in Television shows like Sonpari, Kise Apna Kahein and Jeena Isi Ka Naam hai.  She was honoured with prestigious Padma Shri award in 2007 for her contribution in cinema. 

Remembering the veteran actress, Naved Jafri tweeted, “Our dear Shashikala Ji is no more. She was a great artist. May the almighty give the family strength and patience to bear this irreplaceable loss. Deepest condolences #ShashiKala #RIPShashikala.”

Actor Ronit Roy also took to twitter and wrote, “Shashikala ji…RIP.”
