‘Men have never had issues with me,’ says Mallika Sherawat. Since the beginning of my life, men have admired me.
As part of an interview with an Indian newspaper, Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat spoke candidly about the sexist treatment she received from Indian women, which led her to leave the country.
“I had to deal with a lot of hostility from my family,” stated the actor. I had to fight against patriarchy. In contrast to my mother, my father is a staunch conservative. As well as my mother, and my brother. I had no one to turn to for help. Honestly, I was completely clueless at the time. It occurred to me: “I can run away and become an actress. Then I did just that.”
With regard to conducting personal scenes, Sherawat said: “There were many judgmental remarks, such as that she has no morality, that she is a fallen lady, and that she wears a bikini in her scenes and kisses on film. Despite this, it’s all part of the experience, and I’m glad to see that society has grown so much. A new tolerance has emerged among the population.”
“I was tormented and hounded by a particular segment of the media,” Mallika continued. This concerned me since most of them were female.”
“Men have never had any issues with me,” she said. There is no doubt in my mind that I have always been admired by men. Why these women were so hostile towards me was beyond my comprehension. And because I needed a break, I left the nation for a bit. They’re more tolerant of me now. They’re also more affectionate, which I’m really appreciating.”
When asked about moving to a major city, the actor said, “Of course it takes a bit to absorb the culture and settle in, but I did.”
