We’re all living in BTS’s universe. BTS reunited happily with ARMY to celebrate yet another milestone year and a career that has taken them from being the first Korean band to play at the 2017 AMAs to becoming the first Asian group to win Artist of the Year.

BTS took home three trophies (for a total of nine AMAs) on the night, which also featured two performances: Coldplay’s “My Universe” and BTS’s big single “Butter.”

Because of their amusing crowd reactions and the fact that a room full of fans was roaring on their every move, BTS may as well have remained on stage the whole night. Is it possible to blame them? This is BTS’s first in-person participation at an American award event since the 2020 Grammys, due to the epidemic. Since the beginning of last year, they’ve welcomed a whole new wave of admirers, and their attendance at the AMAs will undoubtedly bring in many more.

The most authentically BTS moment of the night, as fans pointed out, occurred during their Artist of the Year acceptance speech, which was gorgeous, chaotic, and eerily familiar. Leader RM began by confessing his worries, saying, “I totally forgot what I have say,” before delivering his typical forceful address. “We had our first-ever TV live performance at this stage AMAs four years ago, and it was ‘DNA.'” “At the moment, we were too eager and terrified,” RM said. “It’s been a long and incredible journey since then, but no one could have predicted that we’d be standing here accepting this award.” ARMY, you’re the only ones who don’t belong.

At the AMAs, BTS was able to meet and greet a number of their other artists (and fans), including Chlöe Bailey, Becky G, and Jojo Siwa. (This is after a star-studded night with Lizzo at a Harry Styles concert.) The band will be in Los Angeles for the next several weeks to rehearse for their Permission to Dance shows, so expect more celebrity sightings and style triumphs.
