Classical singer Pandit Rajan Mishra passed away due to Covid-19 and followed by a cardiac arrest. He breathed his last on Sunday at a St Stephen hospital in Delhi at the age of 70.
He was a part of the Pandit Rajan-Sajan Mishra duo. The duo belonged to the Banaras style of singing and has performed in India and across the globe. They gave their first concert international concert in Sri Lanka in 1978 and after that performed in countries like Germany, Singapore, France, Switzerland, Austria, USA, UK, Qatar and many more.
The government of India honored him with the prestigious award Padma Bhushan in 2007. He also won National Tansen Samman on December 14, 2012.
Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar paid tribute to him on Twitter, she wrote, “Mujhe abhi pata chala ki bahut guni shastriya gayak Padma Bhushan Sangeet Natak Akademi puraskar se sammanit Pandit Rajan Mishra ji ka nidhan hua hai. Ye sunke mujhe bahut dukh hua. Ishwar unki aatma ko shanty pradan kare. Meri samvedanaayein unke parivaar ke saath hai.”
Music composer and singer Salim Merchant took to twitter to express his grief and tweeted, “Heartbreaking news- Padma Bhushan Shri Rajan Mishra ji left us today. He died of Covid in Delhi. He was a renowned classical singer of the Benaras Gharana and was one half of the brother duo pandit Rajan Sajan mishra. My condolences to the family. Om Shanti.”
