Kindness is a virtue but sometimes our good nature leads to us being taken for granted. We are good, we mean well and kindness is our inherent trait yet people sometimes take advantage. Its important to strike the right balance between protecting yourself and being overly kind.
Here are some traits you should look out for. If this is your constant pattern, be a little careful.
- ALWAYS SAYING YES, EVEN IF YOU WISH TO SAY NO
There are times I just don’t feel like it, don’t want to say yes but that constant need to be good, to be helpful, not letting others down and just saying ‘YES’ with a heavy heart, is not a good trait. Self-care is not about being selfish, it’s a necessity.
- EFFORTS ARE NOT RECIPROCATED
Often, we see that many of relationships are imbalanced. We might stretch ourselves for our near and dear ones but in our times of distress, they vanish. Don’t over-stretch for these people in vain. Mark your boundaries.
- YOU FEEL DRAINED INSTEAD OF BEING HAPPY
Normally being kind should make you feel fulfilled and enriched but if the contrary is true and you are feeling drained and exhausted, please pause and reflect.
- FOCUS ON YOURSELF
You are not getting a medal if you skip your own needs just to make others happy. You will feel emotionally worn out if you don’t look after yourself and it will reflect on your health.
- DON’T ALWAYS APOLOGISE
Don’t feel sorry if you sometimes disappoint your friends or family. Apologizing when its unwarranted can diminish your self-esteem. It’s a big price to pay for someone else’s expectations.
Be good but also be wise!
