Darlings is an upcoming Indian Hindi language black comedy drama film, written and directed by newbie Jasmeet K Reen from a screenplay by Parveez Sheikh. Produced by Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt and Gaurav Verma, this marks Alia Bhatt’ s first project as a producer. The film stars Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma and Roshan Mattew. The movie is scheduled to release via the giant OTT platform, Netflix, on 5 August,2022.
The teaser of Alia Bhatt’s Darlings, released on Tuesday and it is intriguing!! It begins with Alia Bhatt watching a movie in a theatre, when a voiceover begins to tell the story of a frog, resting by a river, who befriends a scorpion. Alia and Vijay Varma are the metamorphical frog and scorpion, going by the narrative and their roles are not defined. In another scene, Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah are seen sitting in a police station when Alia says, “The killing was just in our imagination.”
Ahead of the teasers release, Alia shared a video and wrote, “Thoda dark.. thoda comedy. Darlings teaser out tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, Netflix India shared this quirky poster with a caption (Can a frog and a scorpion be friends).
The movie is said to be based in Mumbai and is the story of a mother-daughter, who are facing exceptional circumstances and are trying to get by inspite of all odds. The music for the film is by filmmaker -composer Vishal Bhardwaj, and the lyrics are by the veteran lyricist Gulzar.
Alia comments, “It’ s my first film as a producer that too with Red Chillies. We are very proud and happy that the film has shaped up well and we hope it will entertain and engage audiences world over.”
