Doctor G is a well-rounded debut by the director Anubhuti Kashyap. A medical comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh, Shefali Shah and Sheeba Chaddha, this movie is a good blend of decent acting, an absorbing storyline and entertainment.

A young male medical graduate from Bhopal, lands up to study gynecology for his masters. He really hoped for a career in orthopedics but given his low rank, he ends up in gynaecology. He accepts the place grudgingly hoping to swap but has no luck.

He is the ‘solitary reaper’ in an all women section. Uday gets ragged in the initial days but eventually befriends Dr. Fatima. Surrounded by smart women, who know their minds, the protagonist decides to empower himself with the right notions about ambition and masculinity. The tough women around him, help him overcome his ingrained reservations.

Doctor G is a fun movie that addresses issues with the right seriousness they deserve. Uday’s mother lost her husband when she was pregnant, and this makes a man realize that priorities need to be sorted and prejudices must be overcome. Each encounter with a woman, teaches him something new.

Ayushmann has delivered a fantastic performance. It is a story of a man’s evolution. This is an educative yet not a preachy movie. The first half focusses on a male doctor blending in a woman-oriented territory. But the second half gets a serious tone. So, overall an emotionally overwhelming comedy.
