Prime Video is helping to the expansion of the OTT sector by “addressing some of the most critical obstacles that currently exist in fueling the growth of the media and entertainment industry,” according to Gandhi, Country Head, Amazon Prime Video, India.
Gaurav Gandhi, Country Head, Amazon Prime Video, India, spoke at the CII Big Picture Summit 2021’s session titled ‘The Big Pitch: Is the Industry Ready, What’s Next?’ The OTT market in India is the fastest growing and has the potential to become the world’s largest, according to Gandhi.
“India is the world’s fastest growing OTT market, with the potential to be the largest when it scales up after laying a solid basis,” he added. “One, India’s OTT segment has a huge base of consumers with an insatiable appetite for entertainment and disposable income to pursue the best experiences; two, a very rich pool of creators who have the power to create world-class entertainment experiences; and third, the deep penetration of connectivity via affordable broadband available ubiquitously across multiple devices,” he added.
Prime Video is helping to boost the OTT business by “addressing some of the most critical obstacles that currently exist in fueling the growth of the media and entertainment sector,” according to Gandhi. To begin, we knocked down geographical barriers to address the issue of reach or distribution. Prime Video, for example, now serves 99 percent of the country’s pin codes and is available in 240 nations and territories.”
He complimented Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur for recognizing the OTT industry’s role as a “force for good” in creating employment and fueling growth throughout the media and entertainment ecosystem.
