Legend of Kathak, Birju Maharaj died at his home in Delhi in the early hours of Monday due to a heart attack. The country’s second-highest civilian award recipient, Padma Vibhushan, he was born Brij Mohan Nath Mishra on February 4, 1937, in a well-known family of Kathak dancers. His grandson, Swaransh Mishra, shared the unfortunate news on his Instagram account.

Well known as a Kathak dancer, he was an evenly prolific singer, poet and painter. Adnan Sami, Subhash Ghai, Ashoke Pandit and others from Bollywood mourned the demise of Kathak legend.
