Korea explains why K-dramas are becoming increasingly popular throughout the world

Sa Hye-jun requested Ahn Jeong-ha, a make-up artist, for permission to kiss her in the young adult Korean show Record of Youth, and many viewers were blown away. Park Bo-gum, who plays the male protagonist, had requested Park So-dam, who plays the female lead in Parasite, for her approval.
K-dramas like Run, which showed the romance between a retired athlete and his interpreter, and Hot Stove League, which has no romance between the lead protagonists, have replaced the toxic high-school narrative of the opinionated girl falling for the bad boy with a heart of gold, as in Boys Over Flowers.

In recent years, K-content has taken off throughout the world, especially in India, and Koreans feel it has a lot to do with the country’s capacity to give diversity, monitor global trends, and review preconceptions.

The Mandalorian’s VFX artist, who has worked on the hit Disney Plus series The Mandalorian, explained that women used to be expected to marry before their mid-30s in order to raise their children, but now female characters in K-dramas are mostly over 30 and more career-oriented compared to women in the ’90s and ’00s, which reflects the idea of gender equality in Korean society.”

‘Cinderella’ is a sub-genre in K-dramas that has to be phased out, say K-drama fans. It’s been utilised as the basis for a number of popular Korean dramas in the past, including Ha Ji-Secret won’s Garden with Hyun Bin, and Gong Yoo’s Coffee Prince with Yoon Eun-h.

As a result of our shared experiences of living through these times together, I believe many people can connect to the stories we’ve created. In my opinion, that’s the main reason why so many people are interested in our tales and culture right now.”
