People who are motivated to lose weight in the New Year are confronted with a dizzying assortment of fad diets and quick-fix weight-loss plans.

Nutrition experts told Health Day Now that anyone contemplating eating habits and diet programmes including intermittent fasting, the Keto diet, the Whole 30 Program, and the Mediterranean diet should keep two basic truths in mind.

To begin, the diet that’s suitable for you is mostly determined by what you enjoy eating and what fits best into your daily lifestyle.

“Any of these diets are pointless if you’re only going to do them for a week and then go back to normal,” Cheskin added.

Second, any diet or eating pattern will aid weight loss only if you consume less calories than you burn on a daily basis.

A smart weight-loss diet will provide you with all of the nutrients you require while also limiting your calorie intake.

Caroline Susie, a registered dietitian in Dallas and a spokesman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, said, “Anytime we lower calorie intake, we’ll observe weight reduction.”

The experts pointed out that two of the most scientifically supported eating patterns, intermittent fasting and the Mediterranean diet, weren’t designed to help people lose weight in the first place.

People who practise intermittent fasting must only eat during specified hours of the day or severely restrict their calorie intake on certain days of the week.

“Intermittent fasting is all the rage these days. It’s funny since this diet has been around for a long time. In reality, many religions have practised intermittent fasting for a long time “Susie said. “As ancient as this diet is and as historic as it is, it’s now getting its 15 minutes of fame.”

“What’s great about it is that it doesn’t tell you what to eat. It notifies you when it is time to eat. This may be an alternative for you if you’re not a big lover of lists or what’s on my plan or what’s not on my plan “Susie went on.
