Veteran lyricist Gulzar turned 87 on Wednesday. On a special day, his daughter and filmmaker Meghna Gulzar penned an adorable birthday wish for him on social media.
Taking to Instagram on the special occasion, Meghna Gulzar wrote a beautiful short poem and posted a picture of her sharing smiles with her father. She wrote, “Eclipsed moons Charcoal nights Broken halves Jagged lines Fragrant eyes Fragile smiles Weaving dreams Entwining rhymes…A word at a time…Writing life.”
Several members from the film fraternity and his fans extended their greetings to the legendary lyricist for his eternal and poignant words on his birthday.
“Janamdin ki dheron shubhkamnaen Gulzar sahab,” write actor Rohit Bose Roy on Instagram.
Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan tweeted, “Wishing the iconic lyricist, poet, author, screenwriter, film director and dear friend, Gulzar Saheb a very Happy Birthday.”

Gulzar started his career in 60’s, as a lyricist with the film ‘Kabuliwala.’ Since then he has penned songs and scripts in several films, and also directed several acclaimed feature films including ‘Aandhi’, ‘Parichay’, ‘Mausam’, ‘Maachis’, ‘Khushboo’, and ‘Koshish’. The multi-talented artist has been honoured with awards including Sahitya Akademi Award, several Filmfare and National awards, and also the prestigious Padma Bhusan award, in his long career.
