OTT giant Netflix has decided to slash its prices in more than 116 countries after its successful strategy in India. This will surely bring a steady hike in the subscriptions.
Netflix’s plan of Rs. 199 per month mobile-only will now be priced at Rs. 149. Along with this, the basic subscription is now for Rs. 199 as per Rs.499 earlier. Netflix has always been more expensive than other OTT portals. Prices have been cut in Asia, Europe, Latin America, sub- Saharan Africa and Middle East.
Ted Sarandos, the co-chief officer stated, “We can do quite well in India. We are a long way from that, we are still investing in it and I think that we will ultimately do great in India.”
India has a lot to offer where growth of subscriptions is concerned. The viewers love to watch the local content. Movie RRR and Gangubai Kathiawadi, both of which were streamed online, earned great revenue on the OTT platforms.
The OTT platforms have done what cable and broadcasting and DTH could not go for 20-25 years, get the consumer to appreciate good content and variety and pay for it.
