According to filmmaker Akarsh Khurana, his next film “Rashmi Rocket” is inspired by numerous women athletes who are subjected to the ancient yet “widespread” practise of gender testing in sports.

“Rashmi Rocket,” set in Kutch, Gujarat, portrays Taapsee Pannu as a brilliant athlete who confronts discrimination because she is not conventionally “feminine.” The film is directed by Khurana, who is renowned for the films “Karwaan” and “Mismatched.” It is based on an original narrative by south filmmaker Nanda Periyasamy.

“It isn’t based on a single person’s life. It is based on the difficulties of many Indian and international female athletes. The intriguing thing is that our understanding of situations like gender testing and other similar issues is limited to a few high-profile examples that may have made the press.

“But what’s most intriguing is that Nanda, from Tamil Nadu, (revealed) that there are so many examples in villages and other states that we’re not even aware of.”

“Aside from the fact that some people have undergone this procedure in real life, this is an entirely fictionalised account of events. It’s a different tale altogether… The conditions of the gender test, as well as the events that follow the test, are entirely made up, and it is not representative of anyone’s life “.

The Mumbai-born filmmaker said he understood the film would be dealing with a delicate subject when he agreed to join the production.

“The producers did not intend for the narrative to be told in a theatrical manner. It has to be done more gently and subtly. We’ve created an interesting and compelling video that will hopefully leave you thinking “he stated. Priyanshu Painyuli, Supriya Pathak Kapur, Abhishek Banerjee, and Supriya Pilgaonkar also feature in the film.

Overall, “Rashmi Rocket” is a narrative about people.
