Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu have been gaining headlines recently, after she made the country proud by representing India at Tokyo Olympics 2020 and wining a silver medal in the women’s 49 kg category. Her win stowed the country with its first medal at Tokyo Olympics. Post her win, the social media went abuzz over congratulatory messages, and her pictures and video were circulated by people online. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh felicitated the weightlifter on her return to India. She was also given a round of applause at the airport and a grand welcome was give on her way to Manipur.

After a long span of 2 years, Mirabai reunited with her family. Rajat Sethi the advisor to the Manipur Chief Minister shared a picture of Mirabai which went viral on social media. After the picture surfaced online, people were left amazed. In the picture, Mirabai was seen enjoying a meal, which had rice and some vegetables. The weightlifter was sitting at a cemented flooring in a tiny house with unpainted walls. Rajat Sethi took to his Twitter handle and shared the picture along with the note that, “Poverty is never an excuse for achieving one’s dreams. India’s most loved Saikhom Mirabai Chanu at her humble home in Manipur after winning Silver Medal in the Tokyo Olympics.” On Thursday, the post went viral and people flooded the comment section with ample of positive and respectful comments. One Twitter users mentioned, “Respect”, wherein the other user wrote, “Job done. Back to her humble home and roots after doing India proud with the silver medal!! Your background should never come between you and your dreams!” Many other Twitter users expressed their respect and love for Mirabai.

Mirabai on her social media handle shared a family picture and wrote, “This feeling of meeting my family after a long span of 2 years is beyond words. I’m grateful to each one of you for showing faith in me and supporting me. Thank you Ema and baba for all the sacrifices you made for me to reach at this level.”
