Queen, on Netflix, is a heartfelt Polish drama about a Parisian tailor who moonlights as a drag queen. The series starts by showing the main character, Silvestre, working on stage and then at his home. He designs suits and has a flare for clothes and design. His own clothes are impeccable. He contemplates resigning, but before that happens, he receives a pink envelope from Poland, which brings about a twist in the story. His daughter is in dire need of a kidney transplant and no suitable donor was available.
The heart prevails and he travels to Poland and the tone for a great bond between Iza(granddaughter) and Silvestre is set. The daughter shows her relentless anger towards her father, but as the story progresses a great bond is formed, and they go on to help the mining families.
Silvestre is forced to confront his past in the small town and a lot of amends need to be made. The mining accident and the birth of Iza’s premature child, change Silvestre’s life and personal relationships.
The sensitive topic of a drag queen, Loretta, is handled very well. Released on June 23, 2022, this 4-episode series is just perfect for a relaxing weekend binge.
Before I give away the entire story, I would just like to add that the end is so perfect, that when in times of need, Silvestre brings Loretta to life again to help his daughter and initiates social change by introducing the locals to the art of drag. This also helps him to accept himself and show his daughter the truth instead of running away.
I just loved the series for its wonderful plot of love, acceptance, and family ties.
I recommend watching it. A definite 8/ 10!!!!
