Ray director Srijit Mukherji says Ali Fazal: I hope you become a superstar soon

Satyajit Ray’s short stories based an anthology ‘RAY’ is currently streaming on OTT platform. Srijit Mukherji admits that Late Satyajit Ray has influenced every filmmaker in Bengal. Netflix India’s had given tribute to the legendary writer-filmmaker Satyajit Ray on his birth centenary year. The film ‘Ray ‘consist of four segments with four separate stories. Among the four two are directed by Srijit Mukherji one of which includes ‘Forget Me Not’ that features Ali Fazal and Shweta Basu Prasad in the leading roles.

Recently in a chat with Midday Mukherji said, “Anyone in Bengal who is a storyteller inevitably steps into Satyajit Ray’s world; you are brought up on his films and writings. I know all his short stories by heart.” Actor Ali Fazal has portrayed the role of a successful entrepreneur Ipsit Rama Nair in Ray. Talking about the OTT platform, the director seems very happy as OTT platforms are playing a major role nowadays in booming the spot light on talented actors and it also helped in sharing Ray stories far and wide among the audience. “Now, the likes of Pankaj Tripathi and Rasika Dugal are superstars, and rightfully so because they are superb actors. The definition of a superstar is changing, thanks to OTT platforms.” Said the director. The other segment which is directed by Srijit Mukherji is ‘Bahrupiya’ which stars Kay Kay Menon in the leading part.

Further in the conversation, Srijit spoke about Ali’s performance and acting in the film. He said that, “After watching his film, I messaged him, ‘you are a superb actor, and I hope you become a superstar soon.” Srijit. Srijit is also going to direct Taapsee Pannu starrer biopic ‘Shabaash Mithu’ which was supposed to be directed by Rahul Dholakia earlier.\

On work front, Ali Fazal will be seen in upcoming movie ‘Bhoot Police’ that will be release later this year, and it is directed by Pravan Kirpalani.
