Sex Education, the popular web series, is back with the third season, which has been streaming on Netflix since September 17. The show has been very successful, but there is some bad news for fans as one of Sex Education’s most beloved stars, Emma Mackey, might leave the show. The 25-year-old actress, who plays Maeve Wiley on the show, has hinted that she might not be back for any upcoming season. According to the actress’ recent interview with Hunger magazine, she’s finished playing Maeve.
In an interview with Hunger magazine, Mackey talked about her experience working on Sex Education and how she made “lifelong friends” with cast members such as Asa Butterfield, Aimee Lou Wood, and Ncuti Gatwa. Additionally, the actress stated that she is not interested in reprising her role as Maeve in the series. Emma said, “Sex Education is so momentous as a concept, as a show, and the cast are phenomenal. I genuinely care about them all a lot and I made lifelong friends. But the bittersweet nature of it is that I also can’t be 17 my whole life.”
Following her breakout role in Sex Education, the actress was cast in Death on the Nile, alongside a stellar cast that includes Gal Gadot, Kenneth Branagh, Letitia Wright, Rose Leslie, and Annette Bening, among others.
Emma will also be seen in a lead role in another major project that includes the Emily Bront biopic. Fionn Whitehead, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Alexandra Dowling star in the film, which is set to be released in 2022.
However, there has been no word on whether Emma will appear in the fourth season of Sex Education or if the show’s creators intend to bring a new season to the show.
