Surekha Sikri passed away in Mumbai on Friday, July 16 after suffering cardiac arrest. The veteran actress’s demise has left everyone shocked and the entire entertainment industry is mourning her death. Surekha’s co-stars from one of the longest-running shows on television, Balika Vadhu also paid tribute to her. Surekha essayed the role of Kalyani Devi in the show.
Avika Gor, who started her career with the late actress in Balika Vadhu, spoke to an e-portal and said it is a great loss. Avika played Anandi’s role in the show. During the interaction, she said, “Saddened to know about the demise of my mentor Surekha Sikri Ji- one of the greatest actors and doyen of Indian cinema, a Legend. She inspired generations of actors and will always be missed. RIP.”
“What can I say about her? She showed us how our work is done, with so much grace and elan. She has been an inspiration to people like me who have aspired to be like her in every possible way. Her love and warmth are unmatched and there will never be another like her,” said Avika Gor.
Talking about how she started her career in the industry with Surekha Ji, Avika added, “Very lucky to have started my journey with having her around. It was a blessing and I’m sure wherever she is, she is blessing me and helping me grow. I have learned to stay grounded from her. Onsets, she never made me feel that I was working with such an experienced person and I should behave in a certain way. She helped me grow. I learned from her that every day, every character needs 100% of you. I have seen her work really hard and that will always be my inspiration.”
Sidharth Shukla, who also shared the screen space with Surekha Ji in Balika Vadhu, paid tribute to the late actress. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “RIP Dadisa… May God bless your soul #SurekhaSikri.”
Surekha’s death has left her onscreen family numb. Actor Shahshkank Vyas who played her grandson, Jagdish in Balika Vadhu also paid tribute to her. The two shared a strong bond off-screen also.
Talking to the e-portal, Shashank said, “She was an institution in herself. She was a legend and a natural actress. She was full of life and positivity. She lived life on her own terms and had a sense of humor. I must have done some good in life, that I got a chance to work with her and I learned a lot in 5 yrs. We both shared an extremely close bond that will never fade away. She will be missed. May her soul rest in peace.”
