A grumpy old man loses the love of his life and with her going, he almost stops living. She was the colour in his life. He shuts himself to the world. He tries to kill himself but this misanthropic man, can’t even accomplish that. He is grumpy as hell!
A cute, very pregnant Mexican woman moves into the neighbourhood. Mariana Trevino deserves an applause for her splendid performance- bit by bit, she peels the layers of anger that Otto has build around himself and there we have a wonderful, caring man, Otto.
Otto’s wife had met with an accident when she was about to deliver their first child. She was paralyzed by this accident and passed away soon after. Otto can’t deal with her death and shuts himself to the world.
This is his story; a grumpy hard, undemonstrative man who has a heart of gold but refuses to open it. Based on a true novel by Fredrik Backman, this movie focusses on love, life, loss and grief. Otto cares about the world but masks his feelings.
Tom Hanks, for me, is an epitome of perfection. He has fitted into the shoes of Otto so aptly. How a young neighbour brings back the dead feelings in his life. She helps him overcome his pain and brings warmth and friendship back to him. From being an ego centric neighbour, he slowly but surely becomes a loving friend.
The movie is intense but really kept me glued. Was almost sad it was over. Really enjoyed this one. Thankyou Netflix!
