The Delhi Police Department criticized a group of internet users for deliberately distorting a viral video of a guy from Jammu and Kashmir who was denied a hotel room in Delhi. Attempts to tarnish the image of Delhi Police through wilful distortion may result in criminal charges, according to a statement posted on Twitter by Delhi Police.
The Delhi Police flatly denied sending any orders to refuse hotel reservations to anyone with a Jammu and Kashmir ID. “A rumored video has gone viral on social media showing a person being rejected a hotel room because of his J&K ID,” they added. The reason for the cancellation is because it was ordered by the police. It is clear that Delhi Police has not issued such a directive.”
They went on to say that the individual who posted the video on YouTube stated he stayed in a different hotel in the same neighborhood, and that the hotel that refused the reservation made a poor reason. “Some netizens are attempting to damage the image of Delhi Police by wilful distortion of the video in circulation, which may result in criminal action,” the Delhi Police said.
Nasir Khuehami posted an undated video on Twitter stating that a Delhi hotel refused to accommodate a person from Jammu and Kashmir. A guy can be heard fighting with the receptionist at The Pleasant Inn, an OYO flagship facility, in the video. A hotel employee told the individual that she had been advised not to accommodate anyone with a J&K ID.
When the guy objected, she contacted the manager, who advised her to inform the individual that Delhi Police had issued an order for the same. Despite the fact that Vivek Agnihotri’s recent film, The Kashmir Files, was not mentioned in the viral video, Nasir blamed the filmmaker for “inciting people against Kashmiris.” Many internet users chastised the Delhi Police for reportedly giving the directives.
It’s worth noting that similar situations have occurred in the past, albeit infrequently. Since the video went viral, several reports dating back to 2016 have been shared. Even in past occurrences, the Delhi Police has expressly denied giving any orders to refuse J&K residents housing.
