Only 24 hours after its official debut last Friday, writer-director Yeon Sang-fantasy ho’s drama “Hellbound” topped the top 10 Netflix series list.

The Korean drama quickly rose to international fame, causing quite a stir in the Korean entertainment business, with some speculating that the fantasy drama may follow in the footsteps of “Squid Game,” which has become the most-watched Netflix series of all time.

Although certain similarities, the two Netflix original programmes have quite distinct success stories and viewer reactions.

“Hellbound” topped the global charts faster than “Squid Game.” It just took a day for it to reach the top of Netflix’s top ten most viewed series, while “Squid Game” claimed the top place eight days after its debut.

The global streaming chart, which was created by FlixPatrol, a website that updates daily VOD charts for 175 streaming platforms in 76 countries across the world, indicates that “Squid Game” has had a longer run of success than “Hellbound.”

“Squid Game” has been at the top of the Netflix programme ranking for weeks, while “Hellbound” was surpassed by the animated series “Arcane” just a day after the former topped the list.

“Hellbound” tackles important issues including life and death, sin and retribution, and the conflict between humanity and God in determining what makes individuals sinful. Angels issue death warnings to people who are going to die shortly in the fantasy play, and otherworldly creatures carry out the prophesy at their separate death periods. They mercilessly display in front of the public what type of anguish wicked men and women must face in hell before taking their own lives, instilling dread among onlookers.

In early October, “Squid Game” was the most popular show in 90 countries. Its appeal spanned practically all civilizations. “Hellbound,” on the other hand, is presently the No. 1 show in 29 nations, the majority of which are in Asia and Africa. It came in third in the United States and Canada.
