Veteran actor Chandrashekhar Vaidya passes away at age of 97

Veteran actor and filmmaker Chandrashekhar Vaidya left for heavenly abode today morning, June 16. He was 97. He was admitted to the hospital last week and passed away today due to age-related ailments. His son Ashok confirmed his death. He mentioned he passed away at 7 am today.

He was known for portraying Arya Sumant in the Ramayan series. The veteran actor has appeared in almost 250 films. He was a popular actor of the 1950s. In 1953, his first film as a hero ‘Surang’ was released.

Chandrashekhar was last seen in the film Khauff which was released back in 2000. The film also featured Sanjay Dutt and Manisha Koirala. He was also seen in movies like The Burning Train, Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, Maan Gaye Ustaad, Hum Tum Aur Woh, Angulimaal, Gateway of India, Barsaat Ki Raat, Rustom-E-Baghdad, King Kong amongst others.

Apart from acting, he also produced and directed the musical hit movie Cha, Cha, Cha which was the debut film of Helen.

Chandrashekhar also served as President of the Cine Artistes Association (CINTAA) from 1985 to 1996. He is the father of popular television producer Ashok Shekar and grandfather to television actor Shakti Arora.
