Viewers will have a lot of new Korean drama series to select from in early June. A couple of new legal dramas that debuted over the weekend are among them.
So, Ji-sub scrubbed and dressed up for the lead part in Doctor Lawyer, while You Are My Spring actress Seo Hyun-jin stars in the SBS drama Why Her? as a high-performing lawyer who falls from favor.
Both series feature a great professional who gets to the top of their industry and scores a much sought-after promotion in the initial episode, only to have the rug yanked out from under them instantly.
Oh Soo-jae (Seo) is the only female partner at TK Law Firm, and she’s also the most successful, since her revenue exceeds that of her peers. This qualifies her for a major promotion to managing partner.
Min Young-bae (Kim Sun-hyuk), who believes the position is his to lose, is the only one standing in her path. He’s right to be confident, because forces behind the scenes are trying to keep Soo-jae down, spurred by misogyny in the upper levels.
Her first assignment is to clear a prospective presidential candidate of a rape accusation (who happens to be her ex). She encounters Park So-young, the vain and materialistic bar hostess who made the accusation (Woori the Virgin’s Hong Ji-yoon in a brief part).
We still have a lot to learn about Soo-jae, a woman who has buried her humanity in order to conquer sexism, but why Her? When Soo-jae finally begins on the road to repentance, the big question will be whether it can persuade us.
