South Superstar Kamal Haasan took to social media today to remember his guru K Balachander, on his 91st birth anniversary. The actor shared a throwback picture with Balachander and spoke about his expertise in cinema.

In his tweet, he mentioned that he got acquainted with K Balachander when he was 16. Legendary film director K Balachander passed away on December 23, 2014, due to age-related ailments.

It was K Balachander who introduced Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan to mainstream moving pictures. In multiple interviews, Haasan has spoken about the influence of Balachander in his life and career.

On his 91st birthday anniversary today, July 9, he shared a monochromatic snap of them both.

Sharing the photo, the Nayakan actor wrote, “My teacher KB is well versed in cinema and has made his mark. I got introduced to him when I was 16. This is a golden jubilee year for our guru-sishya relationship. Remembering K Balachander on his 91st birthday.”

About K Balachander

K Balachander, fondly known as KB, was a pioneer in the film industry. In his career which spanned over five decades, he had directed about 100 films. Many actors namely, Kamal Haasan, Nagesh, Nasser, Rajinikanth, Vivek, and Prakash Raj gave mentioned that they owe their careers to Balachander.

He was honored with Padma Shri and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1987 and in 2010 respectively. He had also won nine National Film Awards in his career.

He made his debut in 1965 with Neerkumizhi and later went on to direct various award-winning films such asThamarai Nenjam, Iru Kodugal ,Thaneer Thaneer, Apoorva Ragangal, Aval Oru Thododar Kathai,Varumayin Niram Sivappu, Thappu Thalangal, among several others.
