West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia pay tribute to veteran actress Surekha Sikri’s demise on social media today. Surekha Sikri passed away on July 16 at the age of 75, in Mumbai after she suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this morning.
Mamata Banerjee wrote, “Saddened by the demise of veteran actor Surekha Sikri. Known for her graceful and versatile performances, she will be missed deeply. Heartfelt condolences to her family and fans.”
Manish Sisodia shared a set of pictures of Surekha Sikri in his post and wrote, “Few actors are as versatile and accomplished as Surekha Sikri Ji. She was an institution. Young actors must watch her work. RIP.”
Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal retweeted Manish Sisodia’s post and wrote, “Heartfelt condolences on the demise of veteran actress Surekha Sikri ji. May God bless her soul.”
The veteran actress was hospitalized after she suffered a brain stroke in 2020. Her manager confirmed the news of her demise saying, “Three-time national award-winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram.”
Surekha Sikri is best known for her roles in television shows Balika Vadhu, Banegi Apni Baat, Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil and Saat Phere – Saloni Ka Safar. She is also starred in namely films Badhaai Ho, Sheer Qorma, Ghost Stories among many others.
