Tokyo Olympics 2020: Indian Women’s Hockey team loses bronze medal to Great Britain

After a wave of excellent news from the Tokyo Olympics 2020, there was one piece of negative news that devastated the hearts of many Indians. The Indian Women’s Hockey Team finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics after losing the bronze medal match against Great Britain on Friday. Rani Rampal was leading the team, and she tried to level up the score of their team against Great Britain. However, they were defeated by Great Britain 3-4 at the end in four quarters of the game.

ANI too to twitter and shared the news, “Indian Women’s Hockey team loses to Great Britain, 4-3 in the Bronze Medal match. “Family members of the Women’s Team players began to express their disappointment, as soon as the result was announced. According to ANI, Rani Rampal’s father shared his views saying, “This is not a defeat but a win for the effort put in by the women’s hockey team. Rani will be welcomed happily on her return. The women’s hockey team will insipire many girls in future.” Meanwhile, a team player Neha Goyal’s mother got very emotional after Indian team lost the match to Great Britan.

Even after getting the fourth position and loosing the match, netizens on Twitter cheered the Indian women’s hockey team, and several celebrities praised the girls on social media. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan was among the first to congratulate the players on their efforts on his Twitter handle. Meanwhile, looking forward on the efforts made by Indian women’s hockey team, the Haryana CM ML Khattar announced Rs 50 Lakh reward for all the 9 players from Haryana. Speaking to ANI, he said, “We will award Rs 50 lakhs each to the nine members of the Olympics women’s hockey team who are from Haryana. I congratulate the Indian team for their praiseworthy performance at #TokyoOlympics.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to his Twitter Handle and praised the team for their performance in the Olympic Games. He mentioned, “We will always remember the great performance of our Women’s Hockey Team at #Tokyo2020. They gave their best throughout. Each and every member of the team is blessed with remarkable courage, skill and resilience. India is proud of this outstanding team. We narrowly missed a medal in Women’s Hockey but this team reflects the spirit of New India- where we give our best and scale new frontiers. More importantly, their success at #Tokyo2020 will motivate young daughters of India to take up Hockey and excel in it. Proud of this team.”

Speaking about the game, player Gurjit Kaur and Vandana Katariya scored the goals from the Indian side.
