1899, Netflix’s mystery thriller has been cancelled after Season 1. The shows co-creators Baran bo Odar and Jantje Freise have confirmed that the series will no longer be expanding and fans across the world are in for a disappointment.
They said, “With a heavy heart, we have to tell you that ‘1899’ will not be renewed. We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with the second and third season as we did with ‘Dark’. But sometimes things don’t turn out the way you planned. That’s life.”
They also state, “We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts that you were part of this wonderful adventure. We love you. Never forget.”
Starring Emily Beecham, Andreas Pietschmann, Aneurin Barnard and Isabelle Wei, the show is about passengers on an immigrant ship travelling to the new continent and get caught in a mysterious riddle after finding a second vessel adrift on the open sea. The show has a lot of loose ends but that’s not on the cards now.
The show featured in the top 10’s for five weeks between November 13th and December 18th. A total of about 257.16 hours were watched.
Lynggaard Tonnesen also tweeted an early selfie with his castmates, saying the cast were all “truly devasted” by the decision of not moving forward with season two and three.
