In India, obesity is on the rise among children and adults, prompting worry from specialists

Obesity

According to the 2017 National Family Health Survey, obesity has increased among children under the age of five, with 33 states and union territories reporting an increase in the number of overweight children (NFHS).

Obesity is on the rise, according to experts, due to a lack of physical exercise and poor eating habits. Obesity among youngsters grew from 2.1 percent in NFHS-4 to 3.4 percent in NFHS-5. Obesity has grown in both women and men, not only in youngsters.

Several states and union territories, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Mizoram, Tripura, Lakshadweep, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Ladakh, have reported an increase in the percentage of obese children under the age of five in comparison to the NFHS-4 conducted between 2015 and 2016.

According to the report, only Goa, Tamil Nadu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu saw a decrease in the number of overweight children under the age of five.

According to the poll, 30 states and union territories have seen an increase in female obesity, while 33 states and union territories have seen an increase in male obesity.

Obesity was defined as a body mass index of greater than or equal to 25.0 kg/m2 in men and women, and weight-for-height in children.

Obesity has been linked to bad eating habits and a lack of physical exercise among children and adults, according to medical professionals.

tipsRising wages, bad food habits, and unhealthy life choices, according to Poonam Muttreja, Executive Director of the Population Foundation of India, are behind the 15-year trend of increased obesity among Indian women, men, and children, as validated by NFHS-5.

It is not, however, fair to blame growing earnings. Poor eating habits have a large role as well. “As families get wealthier, the intake of unhealthy foods (often referred to as junk foods) that are high in calories from sugar or fat and low in dietary fibre, protein, vitamins, and minerals is known to rise,” Muttreja added.

Apart from these issues, the great majority of Indians appear to be unaware of the necessity of living a healthy and active lifestyle. They tend to live sedentary lives and lack motivation to engage in any type of exercise, even walking.

For acute respiratory problems, yoga and exercise are recommended

0

It’s crucial to keep in mind that no single complementary or alternative therapy is effective for everyone who suffers from respiratory problems. As a result, a thorough examination is carried out prior to settling on a treatment strategy. It is advised that people exploring alternative medicine for their respiratory difficulties talk with an expert first to discuss the best strategy.

The growth in air pollution is creating an increase in respiratory ailments, which is being exacerbated by poor lifestyle choices. According to a Lancet analysis, chronic respiratory disorders contributed 6.4 percent of India’s GDP in 2016, up from 4.5 percent in 1990. With the prevalence of respiratory problems on the rise, there is a greater desire for natural remedies to address these problems. People are turning to alternative medical practises instead of traditional medicine to discover remedies for their problems.

Common lung disorder

Bronchial Asthma

Bronchitis is an inflammatory illness that affects the airways of the lungs. Excess mucus causes wheezing, coughing, and trouble breathing due to constriction of the airways. It’s a long-term illness that has a significant impact on daily living.

COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is a lung disease that affects people (COPD)

It’s a long-term inflammatory lung illness that prevents air from reaching the lungs. COPD symptoms include difficulty breathing, mucus (sputum) production, coughing, and wheezing. Long-term exposure to irritating chemicals or particulate matter, most often cigarette smoke, can cause it. COPD patients are more likely to develop lung cancer, heart disease, and a range of other health problems.

Bronchitis (chronic)

This is a different kind of COPD. Bronchitis causes mucus to build up in the lungs, causing irritation and coughing. As chronic bronchitis can linger for months, the airways in the lungs are always irritated. Constant coughing, whistling noises when inhaling, wheezing, and chest constriction are all symptoms of chronic bronchitis.

WHO urges governments in the Southeast Asian region to take swift measures to address the lack of physical exercise?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged governments in the South-East Asia region to take swift action to combat inadequate physical activity, which affects up to 74% of teenagers. As a result, the WHO has urged that non-communicable disease epidemics be halted and reversed, as well as physical and mental well-being be promoted.

“Physical activity helps prevent noncommunicable diseases like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and some cancers, which are still the region’s leading killer diseases and a risk for severe disease and deaths in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, WHO South-East Asia Region.

The Regional Director was speaking to a virtual gathering of health authorities and partners from member nations at the introduction of the Regional Roadmap for Implementing the Global Action Plan for Physical Activity (GAPPA). WHO, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, and the International Health Policy Program collaborated to host the two-day regional symposium on physical exercise?

By 2025, the Regional Roadmap seeks to support context-specific activities that will result in a 10% decrease in insufficient physical activity and a 15% increase in worldwide levels by 2030.

Insufficient physical activity is a major risk factor for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) worldwide, particularly in Southeast Asia, where NCDs claim the lives of over 8.5 million people each year, many of whom die prematurely. In the world, 23% of adults and 80% of adolescents aged 11 to 17 do not fulfil WHO physical activity recommendations. Physical inactivity is roughly 15% for adults and 74% for adolescents in the WHO South-East Asia Region.

“Countries and localities must take steps to provide physical activity opportunities for everyone.” “This necessitates a concerted national and local effort across all sectors and disciplines to adopt policies and solutions that are relevant to a country’s cultural and social setting in order to promote, enable, and encourage physical exercise,” stated Dr. Khetrapal Singh.

Primary School Students Call the Cops About a Pencil Issue

0

When a group of students approached police officers in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, and requested for a report to be made against a classmate who had allegedly stolen a pencil, they were taken aback.

When a primary school student’s pencil was stolen by a classmate, he resolved to seek justice by knocking on the doors of a police station.

When a group of students contacted police officers in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district to file a complaint against a classmate, they were taken aback.

A youngster from the first standard, Hanumantha, was shown visiting the Peddakabadur Police Station in Kurnool with his classmate, who was suspected of stealing, seeking officers to fix their “pencil problem” in a video that was supposedly filmed in February but only recently became popular on social media networks.

The footage was posted on the official Twitter account of the Andhra Pradesh Police. In a series of tweets, the police claimed, “Even Primary School Children Trust AP Police: There is a paradigm shift in the attitude, behaviour, and sensitivity of Andhra Pradesh Police in terms of offering confidence and comfort to the people of Andhra Pradesh.”

The youngster is seen in the video saying that a boy snatched his pencil and never returned it. When the officers inquire what they can do about the issue, the youngster is overheard indicating that a case against the boy should be filed. While this is going on, a number of the child’s pals can be seen standing in the background, giggling at the oddity of the scenario.

The officers were observed having a lengthy conversation with the two kids, attempting to reach an agreement by explaining that filing a complaint meant the child accused would go to jail, that bail was hard, and Hanumantha should forgive him for “having a big heart.” Hanumantha, not easily persuaded, weighs the arguments before strongly requesting that at least the mother of the “accused” be called.
