0

Flamingos are one of the most fascinating birds on the planet. These lovely birds are a treat for birdwatchers all across the world, with their delicate necks and thin legs.

A flock of pink flamingos swimming through a small water body is shown in a viral video on social media. Point Calimere Wild Life and Bird Santuary in Kodiakarai, Tamil Nadu, provided the gorgeous scene.

Supriya Sahu, the Tamil Nadu Principal Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forests, tweeted the video.

‘Point Calimere (Kodiakarai) Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu is abuzz with hundreds of migrating birds #TNForest,’ the IAS officer captioned her post.

The attractive and skinny birds give a visual delight as they travel along in a line in the short movie. The pink-coloured birds appear to be migrating and reaching a new location by traversing shallow waterways.

The viral video was released on December 25th and has had about 9,000 views since then.

A lot of people also commented on the video, complimenting the IAS officer for sharing the migrating bird footage.

Others commented that they had went to the nature reserve, which is a great area with a lighthouse and seahorse, and that it was fantastic to see so many flamingos together.

According to News18, the Point Calimere woodland area was designated as a wildlife refuge in 1967. Over the years, the sanctuary’s lagoons have attracted a variety of bird species. Wild boars, horses, and blackbucks also live in the refuge.

Thousands of migratory flamingos arrived to Mumbai last year, during a period when the country was under lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Anime and K-pop fandom are fuelling a surge in Korean and Japanese degrees

0

Interest in anime, gaming, and K-pop is fuelling a surge in Korean and Japanese university degrees, which is helping to resurrect modern language departments that have been suffering from declining enrolments.

According to a report released this year by the University Council of Modern Languages, acceptances to study Korean more than tripled from 50 to 175 between 2012 and 2018, while Japanese seats increased by 71% over the same period (UCML). According to the research, more students now study Korean than Russian, and more take Japanese than Italian.

The popularity of east Asian culture – in particular K-pop and J-pop, Japanese video games, anime and popular films such as Parasite, and series such as the violent survival drama Squid Game – has been boosted by their accessibility on platforms such as Netflix and Spotify, according to experts who spoke to the Guardian.

According to Netflix data, the South Korean sitcom Squid Game is the most watched programme of all time, with 1.65 billion hours seen in the first four weeks following its premiere.

The expanding popularity of Korean culture in particular, dubbed the “Korean wave” or “hallyu,” is influencing trends in a variety of industries, from cosmetics and fashion to food and home appliances.

K-pop, which was projected to be worth about $5 billion in 2017, is at the centre of the K-wave. BTS, a South Korean K-pop group, established a new record for the most YouTube views for a music video premiere — more than 101.1 billion in less than 24 hours for their 2020 single Dynamite.

“It is evident that there has been a trend away from more conventionally taught European languages to non-European languages,” said Emma Cayley, the UCML’s chief executive.

She mentioned Arabic and Chinese, which, along with Japanese and Korean, are driving the revival of language and culture studies at colleges.

According to a recent UCML research based on colleges self-reporting their language offerings, the proportion of institutions providing Japanese increased from 19 percent in 2018 to 39 percent in 2020-21, while Korean departments saw a slight growth.

“For example, in Squid Game, the show’s dramatic pace and arc are understandable to viewers all over the world, but it also interacts with particularly Korean topics that are completely unfamiliar to global audiences,” she explained.

Why Should Your Health Insurance Plan Include Coverage Outside of India?

0

The chance of acquiring health problems has increased as a result of changes such as rising pollution levels, altering food quality, and lifestyle changes such as bad eating habits, stressful commute and work schedules. As we live longer, we are exposed to illnesses for longer periods of time. As a result, having health insurance coverage is an essential.

Because medical expenditures are growing across the board, health insurance is also crucial. Medical inflation in India jumped from 3.8 percent to 8.4 percent between December 2019 and May 2021. You may concentrate on your recuperation without worrying about finances if you have medical expenditure insurance. Section 80D of the Internal Revenue Code allows you to deduct the cost of an insurance policy’s premium.

Many people are advised to go to another country for medical operations. They may require treatment outside of India, even if it is not intended. Due to the fact that medical expenditures are typically greater outside of India, a health insurance plan in India that extends coverage to other nations might be quite beneficial.

When you visit a strange nation, you will realise that everything is alien to you. If you become ill, you may not know who to turn to for financial assistance or to direct you to the finest healthcare centre. A health insurance plan in India that covers you worldwide, on the other hand, can help you with both.

It’s also more practical than travel insurance. Global health insurance, unlike travel insurance, is not offered for a set length of time. It can cover a pre-arranged hospitalisation in a foreign hospital for medical treatment, as well as any pre-existing ailments. A worldwide health insurance plan also covers medical bills even if you return to India, unlike travel insurance.

As a result, such health insurance policies in India are becoming increasingly popular among Indians who travel overseas for higher education, job, or superior medical care for urgent ailments.

The greatest international health insurance plan may provide a wide range of advantages. You may get flexible coverage regardless of the cost of therapy and get treated at the best hospitals in the country. Pre-existing conditions are frequently covered as well. You can also acquire coverage for a wide range of medical costs (in-patient and out-patient care, diagnostics, ambulance services, medical evacuation, repatriation, and more).

A Bad Hollywood Script Reads Like a Financial Stability Report

0

Early summer and the last few weeks of the year are popular times for Hollywood to release big-budget catastrophe films. With its 2021 Annual Report to Congress, the Financial Stability Oversight Council has joined in the fun. Climate change, pandemics, and cyberattacks are the report’s first three major, dramatic, and eye-catching threats. Each has inspired catastrophe films, TV programmes, and novels. Each has a lot of political clout, which comes in useful when it comes to pushing for more funds and more authority. Planning for Hollywood catastrophe movies, on the other hand, results in inadequate risk management.

Climate change, for example, has the potential to jeopardise financial stability in a variety of ways. It might result in a natural disaster that shuts down several major financial institutions, similar to Superstorm Sandy, but larger and more widespread. Rising sea levels might degrade the value of real estate that was meant to be uncorrelated, causing huge losses in securities that were not expected. Government laws aimed at reducing CO2 emissions might devalue fossil fuel reserves, oil firms, automobile manufacturers, and other businesses, potentially resulting in corporate and government bankruptcies and bank collapses. It’s not difficult to think of many more.

The challenge is that thinking about climate change necessitates depending on models that foresee future decades, not just climate but also human reactions, and dealing with a wide range of consequences at once. Preparing for natural calamities is a more manageable job. For one thing, whether you’re concerned about climate change or not, you must participate. For another, you have tens of thousands of historical instances and a firm grasp of scientific principles.

Of course, other factors such as climate change, a mechanism that causes huge expanses of real estate to change value at the same time, changes in government legislation, and so on must be taken into account. However, each of them should be examined separately, without regard for the reason.

Risk managers consider each of these possibilities without delving too deeply into the reasons for their occurrence. If you lose access to your servers due to physical devastation, loss of communication links, hacking, employee misbehaviour, or technological fault, you’ll need a contingency plan, whether the main reason was climate change or something else.

OTTs have helped Bollywood celebrities have a fruitful second innings

0

We saw a restricted number of theatrical releases this year, but thanks to OTT platforms for providing us with an endless supply of entertainment in the shape of online series and films. Recently, we’ve seen a huge shift, with A-list performers not holding their fans waiting and instead entering into the digital world with notable performances, shattering clichés and changing the definition of celebrity. Saif Ali Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, R Madhavan, Karisma Kapoor, and Sushmita Sen were among the first to make a name for themselves on streaming services.

Raveen Tandon, Kajol, and Naseeruddin Shah followed the trend this year, pushing to OTT and not shying away from unorthodox characters. For performers, OTT appears to be a breath of new air. For the series Aranyak, Raveena Tandon took on the role of a cop. Kajol made her OTT debut with Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy in 2020, following her previous Bollywood film Tanhaji. With Amazon Prime musical Bandish Bandits, an experienced actor like Naseeruddin Shah unfurled a little explored territory of OTT.

Popular performers like Kartik Aaryan (Dhamaka), Siddharth Malhotra (Shershaah), Vicky Kaushal (Sardar Udham), and Akshay Kumar-Sara Ali Khan (Atrangi Re) increased the stakes by releasing their anticipated films on streaming sites. They dominated the digital sector by becoming the most popular titles on their respective streaming platforms.

Let us buckle our seat belts as we enter 2022 to see huge projects from legendary Bollywood actors set to be released on OTT platforms in the next year. Madhuri Dixit, the dhak-dhak girl of Bollywood, is making her digital debut with the Netflix series Finding Anamika. It’s about a worldwide celebrity who mysteriously vanishes. Juhi Chawla will also return to the small screen through OTT with a web series tentatively titled Hush Hush. In the series, actress Ayesha Jhulka will make her digital debut.
