Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin, both South Korean superstars, announced their engagement on Instagram on Thursday. After airing on Korean television and Netflix in 2019, the two appeared in the worldwide success program “Crash Landing on You,” which became one of the country’s most-watched drama series.
Son portrayed Yoon Se-ri, a trendy heiress and entrepreneur who appears out of nowhere in the life of Hyun’s character, Ri Jeong Hyeok, a dedicated North Korean military soldier and the son of a high-ranking official. The two meets on the North Korean side of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), which divides the two Koreas, after a fortunate paragliding accident, and eventually fall in love.
The couple’s connection spilled over into real life, to the pleasure of the show’s fans, and they are now ready to marry after going public with their love in early 2021.
“I thought long and hard about how to convey this tale since it’s an important one,” Son wrote alongside a photo of a small ivory-white bridal gown on Instagram. She wrote that she had met someone she wanted to spend the rest of her life with without mentioning Hyun’s name. “Yes, he’s the one… It just occurred that way… Isn’t that, however, fate?”
“Jeong Hyeok and Se-ri, who worked together in a play, are going to take their first step together,” Hyun said on Instagram, alluding to the names of their characters.
“It’s possible that some of you have already figured it out. Yes, I’ve made the vital decision to marry, and I’m going to embark on the next part of my life with caution.
Son and Hyun are two of South Korea’s most well-known performers, with worldwide power among luxury businesses seeking to enter rich Asian markets. Hyun was named brand ambassador for Swiss watchmaker Omega and Tom Ford Beauty, while Son worked in advertisements for Italian fashion label Valentino.
